The Chinese American Educational Research and Development Association
(CAERDA) was founded on September 28, 1992 to promote excellence
in education for all students, particularly among Chinese and Chinese
Americans. CAERDA, a non-profit, non-political, international organization,
emphasizes and pursues educational research and development. Its
major goals are:
- To encourage associates to participate in educational research
and development.
- To inform associates of grant opportunities for engaging in
educational research.
- To enhance understanding of educational issues, and to promote
educational development for Chinese and Chinese American students.
- To create opportunities for scholarly discourse regarding research
findings, learning, collaboration, and cooperation among associates.
- To establish a network for those who are committed to educational
research and development.

Activities And Accomplishments |
Briefly, since its inception, CAERDA has contributed to its associates'
- exchange and advancement of ideas, research or professional
projects through the CAERDA-sponsored events, newsletters, journal,
as well as individual consultations through email;
- opportunities to seek for placement, grants information; and
- community services, such as the publication for Chinese parents
and a long term professional development activity for private
and community-based Chinese school teachers in Northern California.
Annual Events:
- CAERDA sponsors an international conferences each year, held
in Washington, D.C. (1993), New York (1994), Chicago, Illinois
(1995), San Jose, California (1996), Houston, Texas (1997), Los
Angeles, California (1998), Greater Washington, D.C. (1999), Jamaica,
New York (2000), Columbus, Ohio (2001). Beginning 2002, the CAERDA
conference is held in conjunction with the annual conference of
the American Educational Research Association (AERA). Thanks for
the generosity of AERA to provide us with space and facilities,
the CAERDA Conference is always held on the first day of AERA
conference at the same location. However, the CAERDA conference
is solely organized by CAERDA; it is not as a part of the AERA

- CAERDA also sponsors a membership recruitment dinner at the
AERA Annual Conference.
Publications:
- En Route to College for Chinese parents.
- New Waves: Educational Research & Development, a
journal launched in June, 1996 and published as a bimonthly journal.
- Biannual Newsletters that include information on conferences,
grant and job announcements, as well as other related issues.
- Web site, an ongoing project to increase and improve communication
and dissemination of information, also through listserv.
Associates are from various countries, such as Canada, Hong Kong,
Japan, People's Republic of China, Taiwan, Singapore, and the United
States. They are mostly ethnic Chinese professors, researchers,
K - 12 field practitioners in private and public schools, educational
administrators, graduate students and parents.
There are nine Board Directors, each serving a three-year term
no more than two consecutive terms. Board directors then elect the
president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer to carry out
association activities.
